Texas A&M University invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the College of Architecture. The college is dedicated to generating knowledge and producing leaders in the fields of architecture, construction science, landscape architecture, urban planning and visualization. The ideal candidate will share our united vision of significantly influencing the state of the art in the design, planning, and construction of built and virtual environments and will possess demonstrated ability to lead in a multi-disciplinary environment rich in resources.
Texas A&M University is a comprehensive, research-intensive, land-, sea- and space-grant institution with approximately 3,000 faculty members and more than 48,000 students enrolled in 10 academic colleges. The College of Architecture administers four undergraduate and nine graduate degree programs through the departments of Architecture, Construction Science, Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning, and Visualization including four professional design and planning degrees. Together the college’s 120 faculty members, 40 staff members, 400 graduate students and 1,500 undergraduate students create an energetic environment for academic and professional success.
One of the premier design research institutions in the world, the College of Architecture seeks to remain at the forefront of research, teaching, professional education, and outreach associated with built and virtual environments. Its rich and diverse research portfolio includes projects conducted in and across its departments through its multiple research centers and in collaboration with other colleges and centers in the university. For the next decade, the college has identified focus areas in healthy environments, sustainability, and visualization. It is committed to sustaining disciplinary integrity among its departments, fostering established and new teaching, professional and research programs, and encouraging continued collaboration within the college, across the university, and with government and industry.
The dean will be expected to celebrate the accomplishments of the college community, strengthen the college’s ability to meet the needs of its students, faculty and staff, as well as the university and the society we serve, and inspire the college to reach its full potential. The ideal candidate must demonstrate understanding, commitment, and ability to foster the growth of a distinguished research program appropriate to a top-tier university. He or she should understand and practice inclusive and collaborative management skills that strengthen the increasing diversity of intellectual perspectives regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, or religion. The new dean is expected to be an outstanding representative of the college at the university level and beyond, and to have the experience and skills required to lead an effective development program. Academic and professional credentials should include an outstanding record of achievement sufficient for appointment as a full professor with tenure.

The letter should address experience and accomplishments, strengths that qualify or distinguish the candidate, leadership style, and a summary describing the candidate’s commitment to research, teaching and service.
